Jo was raised in Chepstow and has lived in Shirenewton and Trelleck, and now lives in Woolaston. She qualified with the British Institute of Embalmers in 2010. At that time, Jo was managing a Care & Repair organisation rather than working full-time in the funeral profession. Since 2014, she has been supporting families from the Caldicot Funeral Home, offering experienced, compassionate care during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Jo said, “Whenever we are asked to assist, it is an honour. We meet the nicest people and to be given such insights into the lives of those who have passed is a privilege and very humbling. We can never thank those enough who place their trust in us at what is often the worst time of their lives.”
Jo’s husband, Rob Hume, assists Jo and Ben with accounting and finance. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and is well-known as the former captain of Lydney Golf Club.
Qualified accountant Rob said, “I don’t work full-time in the funeral home but am glad to offer support whenever I can.”
Danny is a part-time member of the team and provides valuable support to the family business. He is a reliable and hardworking colleague who assists with a range of duties, helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the funeral home. Danny is known for his strong work ethic, willingness to help wherever needed, and his supportive approach to both colleagues and the families we care for.
Ben Barrett began his journey at the Funeral Home as a volunteer while still at school. Over time, he became an integral part of the team, supporting pall-bearing and office duties before progressing into his current roles as Finance Director and Funeral Director. With many years of service, Ben plays a key role in the day-to-day running of the business and in supporting bereaved families with care and professionalism. He is a respected and well-known member of the local community, and his commitment continues to be greatly valued by both colleagues and the families we serve.
Jane assists with funeral services, oversees our donation collections, and is a welcoming face at our reception. Jane joined us several years ago and adds, “It is a privilege to work at Joanne Hume & Son Funeral Directors.”
Colin Jones is a much-valued part-time member of our team. As fleet manager, he maintains and assists with our vehicles, supports the reception and funeral arranging process, assists with driving, and helps lead funeral processions. Colin is a loyal and dedicated colleague, and his support plays an important role in the care we provide to families.
We are located in Caldicot, but support families across Monmouthshire, The Forest of Dean, Newport, Torfaen, and all other areas as requested.
